MY GRANDFATHER HAD A BACK ROOM OFF OF THE DEN. IT WASN’T MUCH LARGER THAN A WALK-IN CLOSET IN MOST HOMES, BUT FOR HIM, IT WAS WHERE HE ESCAPED INTO HIS INFINITE WORLD OF PHOTOGRAPHY. ONE SMALL CORNER DESK WAS DWARFED BY STACKS OF SLIDE CAROUSELS AND PROJECTORS, WHILE IN A FEW CABINETS LIVED BOXES AND BOXES OF METICULOUSLY ARRANGED AND SORTED 35MM SLIDES AND NEGATIVES. HIS NUMEROUS CAMERAS, WITH THEIR WELL-WORN LEATHER STRAPS, SHARED SHELVES WITH AN ENDLESS COLLECTION OF TIN FILM CANISTERS. AS A YOUNG BOY I REMEMBER ENTERING CAUTIOUSLY AND MARVELING AT THE COMPLEXITY OF HIS EQUIPMENT AND HIS CRAFT, UNABLE TOMAKE ANY REAL SENSE OF HOW IT ALL WORKED. ON MANY SATURDAY EVENINGS HE’D TREAT THE FAMILY TO A NARRATED SLIDESHOW OF THE LATEST TRIP HE AND MY GRANDMOTHER HAD TAKEN, OR OF THE LAST FAMILY GATHERING OR WEDDING. WIDE-ANGLE SHOTS OF VAST NORWEGIAN FJORDS, MACRO IMAGES OF BURSTING BELGIAN TULIPS, BLACK AND WHITE PICTURES OF OUR SMILING EXTENDED FAMILY AT THE LAKE… LYING ON THE FLOOR WITH THE HEALS OF MY HANDS CUPPING MY CHIN, I HAD NO IDEA THAT MANY YEARS LATER I WOULD COME TO LOVE PHOTOGRAPHY AS MUCH AS HE DID.

TODAY I MAKE PHOTOGRAPHY A PART OF EACH AND EVERY DAY, BE IT AT HOME IN CHARLESTOWN, MASSACHUSETTS CAPTURING MY WIFE AND BABY DAUGHTER IN TENDER MOMENTS OF MOTHERHOOD AND CHILDHOOD, OR AT SCHOOL WHERE I TEACH FRENCH AND PHOTOGRAPH ATHLETIC CONTESTS AND CLASSROOM INTERACTION AND LEARNING MOMENTS.

I ALSO MAKE A POINT OF “GETTING AWAY” TO PLACES WHICH CHALLENGE MY PHOTOGRAPHIC EYE AND WHOSE STORIES YEARN TO BE TOLD FROM DIFFERENT ANGLES. SOME OF MY FAVORITE DESTINATIONS INCLUDE PARIS, THE FRENCH ALPS, INDIA, BELIZE, NEW ZEALAND, SANTA FE, SAN DIEGO, BOSTON, LAKE SEBAGO, AND, OF COURSE, THE BEAUTIFUL COAST OF MAINE.

THANK YOU FOR VISITING MY SITE AND FOR LOOKING AT MY IMAGES. PLEASE CONTACT ME IF I CAN HELP YOU CAPTURE YOUR MOST SPECIAL MOMENTS.
